Brighter. Bolder. Birmingham.

Finance opportunities at Birmingham City Council

Birmingham City Council is the largest local authority in Europe. And right now, we’re on the cusp of something truly special. With a healthy GDP, currently four times the rate of the rest of the UK and twice the rate of London, and with HS2 and the 2022 Commonwealth Games on the horizon, it’s a thrilling time to join the Council and importantly our finance team.

As a Council we are changing residents’ lives for the better and the City’s economic dynamism enables the whole of Birmingham to thrive.

But there are challenges ahead. Not only must we get through a pandemic and a recession, but we also need to address long-standing environmental issues and societal problems such as inequality.

To achieve all this, we need to look at how we manage and run the Council, and in particular our finance department. Right now, we’re on an improvement journey focusing on getting the basics right and enabling better decisions through greater insight. We have a clear idea of where we are heading with a finance vision that is reflective of the city we serve; modern, inclusive, diverse and the best.

There’s a lot to do to get us there. That’s why we need a vibrant mix of experienced professionals and fresh talent who are looking for more than their next role in finance. Because this is so much more than that. It’s a chance to change the lives of 1.1 million people and help Birmingham become one of the most successful, most sustainable cities on earth.

If you care about our city – and its future – now’s the time to join us.
